Refractive Errors: This is the most common cause of vision problems in this age group. It can be for distant objects (myopia) or for close objects (hyperopia) (Hypermetropia).

Treatment: This is easily corrected with either glasses or contact lenses. Other options could include surgical procedures like LASIK, Contoura, and Phakic Intraocular lenses.

Presbyopia: This is one of the topmost reasons if your eyesight is getting worse in your 40s. In this condition, close-up tasks, such as reading and looking at the fine print on smartphone screens, become difficult as your eyesight deteriorates. This happens because your crystalline lens starts becoming rigid.

Treatment: Can be very easily treated with glasses.

Cataract: A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s normally clear lens. The majority of cataracts develop as a result of aging or injury to the tissue that makes up the eye’s lens.

Treatment: The surgical removal of the cataractous lens is followed by the implantation of an artificial lens inside the eye.

Keratoconus: This is a condition in which the front portion of the eye (i.e., the cornea) bulges forward, causing blurring, double vision, frequent changes in glass power, and poor vision quality even when wearing spectacles.

Treatment: Can be treated with collagen cross-linking with riboflavin (C3R), INTACS, and customized contact lenses.

Glaucoma: It is a group of conditions characterized by damage to the nerve connecting the eye and the brain (optic nerve). The most common cause is increased intraocular pressure (eye pressure).

Treatment: Antiglaucoma eyedrops are the primary treatment. When medication fails to provide relief, surgery is considered.

Age-related macular degeneration: ARMD is a retinal degeneration that affects central vision. It could be dry ARMD, in which the central retina (macula) deteriorates, or wet ARMD, in which leaky blood vessels grow beneath the retina.

Treatment: A unique vitamin and mineral combination may slow the progression of dry ARMD.

Spasm of accommodation: In this condition, distant vision appears blurred due to prolonged close-sighted work. Also, tired eyes, headaches, and eye strain are some of the symptoms.

Treatment: The best treatment is to take a day or two off from work to give your eye muscles a much-needed rest.

Diabetic Retinopathy: It is caused by retinal blood vessel damage caused by poorly controlled blood sugar.

Treatment: The treatment consists of a laser to the retina as well as injections into the eye. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be required.

Some eyesight conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are common eye problems that can occur in this age group people as well.

Central Serous Retinopathy: CSR is the accumulation of fluid beneath the retina, resulting in blurred or distorted vision. It majorly appears in males, primarily affecting only one eye.

Treatment: If stress can be avoided, this condition usually gets resolved on its own within 1 or 2 months.

Computer Vision Syndrome: CVS is defined as eye strain, headache, neck pain, watering, blurring of vision, and dry eyes caused by prolonged use of visual devices such as computers, phones, tablets, and television.

Treatment: Taking frequent breaks, maintaining good work posture, blinking your eyes consciously, and maintaining adequate lighting will all help to alleviate the symptoms.
